19th Annual Teddy Bear TossChildren and parents expecting a regular visit to the doctor were surprised to see members of the Green Bay Gamblers hockey team handing out teddy bears of all shapes and sizes Monday morning.

Volunteers collected thousands of stuffed toys during the Gamblers game against the Madison Capitols at the 19th Annual Teddy Bear Toss on Feb. 24.

When the Gamblers scored their first goal, fans threw onto the ice new teddy bears they brought to the game—a total of 7,631 stuffed animals, nearly one for every person in attendence.

Area high school students volunteered to collect and sort the bears, which will be given away to local charities across Northeast Wisconsin.

The following Monday, WPS’ Roger Ebert joined Gamblers hockey stars to give some of those bears to pediatric patients at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

The Teddy Bear Toss started in 2000, and since then, fans have donated more than 10,000 teddy bears to area children in hospitals, shelters, and other emergency situations.

WPS Health Insurance was proud to present this year’s Teddy Bear toss with our partners, the Green Bay Gamblers hockey team.
