community safetyAre you looking for something fun for the whole family to enjoy in this gorgeous weather? Mark your calendars for the 31st Annual National Night Out Against Crime Aug. 5!

The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) works with your local police department to hold America’s largest night out against crime promoting involvement in crime prevention in your community and gives you the ability to send a message to criminals letting them know that communities are organized and fighting back against crime.

This event involves 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities throughout the United States, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. It is celebrated in one of your community parks with various events, giveaways, and activities such as block parties, cookouts, parades, marches, youth events, safety demonstrations, and seminars.

Varying on your community, many local restaurants are offering free food and drinks, hog and corn roasts, door prizes including bicycles and helmets, K9 and self-defense demonstrations, kid’s carnival rides, bounce houses, and if the weather permits free hot air balloon rides.

While at this event, you will also learn about NATW’s Dog Walker Watch (DWW) that encourages people nationwide who walk their furry friends to serve as “extra eyes and ears” for local law enforcement agencies. Active dog-walking watchers effectively train new walkers for free on how to effectively observe and report criminal activity in their neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, crimes may be inevitable, but know that you can prepare for the unexpected by knowing what hotlines to call and national organizations to join to help lessen violent and non-violent crimes in your community.

Register to receive your free, official national night out organization kit and start helping turn your community into a safer, happier place to call home.
