Here at WPS, we like to give back to the communities in which we do business in a variety of ways. This summer, we’ve been busy! Have you seen us around? Check out some of the awesome events we’ve had a hand in!

UPCOMING EVENTS

1K Kids Run

The Green Bay Packers and WPS Health Insurance are proud to present the second annual 1K Kids Run event at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on July 25. For this event, participating children get to run a lap around Lambeau Field and then get some Packers swag. WPS’ subsidiary, Arise Health Plan, is based in the Green Bay area.

National Bike Challenge

The National Bike Challenge is a nationwide event uniting thousands of current bicyclists—and encouraging countless new riders. It is a free and easy way to challenge yourself, your colleagues, and your community to ride more while competing on local, state, and national levels.

WPS Health Insurance has signed up for the 2014 National Bike Challenge! The challenge already is in progress and runs through Sept. 30.

You can join the National Bike Challenge, dear reader, by visiting www.nationalbikechallenge.org. You can also see detailed instructions on how to sign up and log your miles.

Heart Walk

Join the WPS team for the Heart Walk in Madison and help make a difference! The event, co-sponsored by WPS, will be Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Alliant Energy Center.

The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's main event for raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 4 killers: heart disease and stroke. Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that's fun and rewarding for the entire family.

This year, more than 1 million walkers are expected to participate in nearly 340 Heart Walk events, taking a stand against heart disease and helping save lives!

The Heart Walk is a way to celebrate with those who have made lifestyle changes. It's also an opportunity to encourage others to take the pledge to live healthier lifestyles, and to raise funds for research and education.

PAST EVENTS

YMCA of Dane County's Healthy Kids Day®

WPS was the presenting sponsor of the YMCA of Dane County's Healthy Kids Day® on April 26.

The free event, held at three Madison YMCA locations, was part of the Y's national initiative to improve families' health and well-being.

Health screenings and blood-pressure readings were offered, along with workshops on healthy eating and healthy cooking. The day also included bike safety, dental care, a healthy food fair, garden project, fire safety, camp cooking, and sports drills.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

WPS had 94 walkers participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. That was the second-largest team, behind Group Health Cooperative at 170 members.

Team captain Tami Gilbertson said WPS was the second-largest corporate fundraiser at $512. Fiskars raised $1,267.

The annual event raises awareness and funding to help fight breast cancer. Three-quarters of the net proceeds stay right here in south-central Wisconsin to fund breast health and breast cancer education and services. The other 25% helps fund national breast cancer research.

Tour de Cure

The WPS team raised $5,774 for the American Diabetes Association’s “Tour de Cure” event. That was third highest among all the corporate teams!

Proceeds benefited diabetes advocacy, education, and research programs in Wisconsin and the nation, particularly children's programs.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's national conference

Mark Jensen, WPS vice president of business services, participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's national conference in Washington, D.C.

The conference, which was held May 5-7, included a trip to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. Its mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

American Red Cross blood drives

WPS locations in Wausau, WI, Marion, IL, and Omaha, NE, as well as Madison held blood drives this year. Blood drives occur at various WPS locations several times each year.

WPS is active at many more events as our employees love to volunteer and give back to their communities. We hope to see you out at any of our upcoming events! Come and say hello!
