Health insurance can be confusing. Add the health care reform to the mix and that might seem like a lot of additional information you need to process when choosing your health insurance plan for 2014.
Let’s take a quick pop quiz:
- Are you confused by the requirements of health care reform?
- Do you need more time to research your options?
- Are you a recent college graduate?
- Are you recently retired and waiting for your Medicare eligibility?
- Are you a part-time or temporary employee?
- Are you between jobs and looking for an affordable alternative to COBRA?
- Are you newly employed and waiting for your health benefits to begin?
- Are you simply looking for an alternative to the health care reform plans?
If you answered YES to any of the questions above, we have a plan for you! The WPS Alternative Choice plan is perfect for those who fall in the categories above. The WPS Alternative Choice plan is short-term health insurance for individuals or families in transition or those waiting to see how the health care reform works before committing to a plan.
We recently wrote about short-term health plans in another blog post. Basically, short-term health insurance plans provide temporary coverage with comprehensive medical and hospital benefits. However, short-term health insurance isn’t renewable. Once the coverage period is done, you’ll need to look for long-term health insurance or other options.
The WPS Alternative Choice plan helps you to avoid major financial loss in case of a serious accident or illness. It also allows you to take time and consider your options without having to forgo coverage in the meantime!
The WPS Alternative Choice offers underwritten coverage for 30-364 days, or two back-to-back six-month policies, which must have a Jan. 1, 2014 effective date. By choosing the two back-to-back six month policies, you avoid additional underwriting. To learn more about what this means, check out the WPS Alternative Choice brochure for additional policy information.
This health plan, approved by the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, may not satisfy the individual mandate requirement under the health care reform law. WPS Alternative Choice is not available on the Federally Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) and does not comply with Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) reforms, including guaranteed issue.
