Start with inner love this Valentine’s Day

GratefulHave you ever heard that you can’t truly love someone else until you learn to love yourself? Perhaps you’ve never thought about loving yourself before. I’ve been thinking about this because I recently bought a magnet that bears the phrase, “When faith in herself was so strong, she could move mountains.” I placed it on my fridge with the intention of looking at it daily.

Believing in yourself and loving yourself are sometimes not easy. But once you learn how to, your life is never going to be the same.

How can we learn to truly love ourselves? I’ve discovered that all you have to do is start looking and you’ll find all kinds of help available to you.

Metta meditation

Metta meditation is a practice of loving-kindness for yourself and for others. You can choose to meditate in a dark room or you can close your eyes at your desk and say these phrases over and over: May I be safe and protected. May I be peaceful and happy. May I be healthy and strong. May I have the ease of well-being. You can move on to the next round and focus on a friend or family member. This can be a very moving experience.

Affirmations

I’ve learned that it’s easier to be negative than it is to be positive, so a lot of people simply stay negative. But being positive can truly transform us. An affirmation is a positive, true phrase about your life right now. If you are ill, write down and repeat, “I am well.” Start today. I deserve only good things in my life. I am loving and love others. I am powerful. I am in control. Think of your own affirmation. Write it down and repeat it over and over. Give yourself positive healing and energy.

Gratitude

Stop what you’re doing right now. Say 10 things you are grateful for. Now say 10 things about your body you are thankful for. It adds up to a lot, doesn’t it? If you’re on a roll, don’t stop there. Show your gratitude for 10 more things.

Treat yourself

Find something that you haven’t done in a while, like a massage, getting your nails done, or treating yourself to a delicious dinner. Do something special and out of the ordinary. You deserve it.

Every day, stay as positive about yourself as possible. No one is perfect. But every day offers a new chance to become your own best friend. Be strong, powerful, and loving. What are you thankful for today? Leave a comment and share!
