It’s the holiday season. Trees are getting decorated. Candles are being lit. Cards are being sent. Cookies are being baked. Presents are being wrapped. Parties are being planned. There’s so much to do!
Whew! I don’t know about you, but I’m a little stressed out. I still have shopping to do. My holiday cards aren’t mailed yet, which nearly ensures that they won’t arrive until next year. With all the activities on my schedule, it’s hard to keep it all straight.
But as busy as it all is, this festive time of year is filled with good things, such as vacation time, visits with friends and family, and presents.
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to open the presents under the tree. Now that I’m a grown-up, I prefer a different type of present. I enjoy the gift of time the most—time spent with friends I don’t get to see that often, time with my family to watch movies or go out to dinner, time to spend quietly by myself reading a book.
Don’t get me wrong—I still like presents. These days, I mostly get clothes and gift cards. These are things I can use. These presents are great. However, free time is a precious commodity. It allows you to relax and let go of stress. It allows you to do the things you’ve been putting off. It lets you catch up with people you don’t get to see often enough. It lets you unplug yourself from the hustle and bustle of life for a while.
This is why time is a great gift. The best part about it is that you can share it with someone. This holiday season, take some time and spend it with people you care about. Make it special. Plan an outing. Make a date. Get a babysitter for the kids. That last batch of cookies you have to bake can wait.
On behalf of all of us here at WPS Health Insurance, have a happy, healthy holiday season!
